Share 6 Taiwanese podcasts I’ve listened to and like as a podcaster and a picky listener(?). They are good for upper-intermediate to advanced Chinese listening practice.
Listen to this Podcast Episode
#1:《The Real Story By 報導者》
“The Reporter 報導者” is a famous independent media in Taiwan. The length of each episode is about 50 minutes.
In each episode, an in-depth report and an in-depth interview will be conducted on an issue or a current social topic. So if you are interested in current affairs and social issues or if you want to listen to a more serious and formal podcast format, then this podcast is highly recommended. Their stance is relatively neutral.
#2: 午後女子會Afternoon Girls’ Club
This show is hosted by two girls. As a person who doesn’t particularly like to listen to chit-chat podcasts, I think this one is smooth and comfortable to listen to.
In each episode, they focus on a topic or an issue. Sometimes it may be a little more serious current event. And other times, it would be just a casual conversation. What is good about it is that they don’t ramble way too much and go off topic.
Also, the topics they talk about are mostly current trends, things that young people would care about.
#3:草木談心
This show is hosted by two psychotherapists: a man and a woman. They share their professional knowledge and their conversations about various psychological topics are relaxing and relatively casual. These topics are also closely related to our lives.
I am personally interested in psychology, so I listen to them to better understand some of the things, phenomena, and issues that I’d been curious about.
#4:體液週報
The fourth one is called “Body-Fluid Weekly” which is hosted by two women who are lesbians. The highlighted feature of it is that the two hosts have a natural sense of humor.
Although they are introducing that they are “the most morally depraved podcast”. I think they should be just kidding. Their conversations are relatively unrestrained as they mainly talk about topics such as sex, gender, and feminism.
In each episode, they will discuss and comment on recent— either domestic or international— gender-related current events or issues. The style of the show is relaxed and funny. I think it is entertaining and also informative.
#5: Before Midnight
This show is hosted by two men who like to talk about philosophical topics. For example, the subject of one episode is: “I don’t want to be someone who underestimates the pain of others.” Then in that episode, the two of them will keep discussing this subject and bringing up ideas.
I like to listen to their podcast during a walk at night. Especially when I was bothered by something, I would listen to their podcast and ramble in the park or along the riverbank.
#6: 出塊True Crime
This show is hosted by two women who live in the United States. The two hosts also have a natural sense of humor. They don’t try to be funny, but it’s funny and relaxing to listen to them.
The length of their regular shows is about one or two hours. They also have a series called ‘Commute Series’, each episode is about ten to twenty minutes. They would read the stories from their audience about their personal experiences or crimes, abnormal and unusual things that happened to people around them. I personally like this series more as it’s shorter, not so scary, and fun to listen to.
